Description
Six (6) Kukui Tree Seeds (Aleurites Moluccana) ready to germinate
Aleurites Moluccana, also referred to Kukui Nut Tree, Candleberry Tree, Candlenut Tree, Indian Walnut, or Varnish Tree is found in many tropical regions. Considered highly ornamental it can reach 65 feet or more at maturity and have wide spreading branches. This tree thrives in moist tropical regions and tolerates a range of soils, temperature and moisture levels. With a fairly aggressive growth rate, it will produce fruit within 5-10 years of planting.
Noted for light green/silvery foliage and numerous sprays of creamy white fragrant blooms, The Kukui Tree produces a fleshy fruit containing nuts which are prized for their high oil content and ability to burn about 15 minutes, hence the nickname candlenut.
Seeds can be sown year round. May be germinated directly or in nursery pots (1gal+). Soak seed(s) overnight prior to sowing. Sow the hard seeds in moist potting soil 1 inch deep. Optionally cover with foil or glass. Place in a sunny, warm spot. Germination occurs after three to four months.
